Backyard Betty

I'm all for new kids on the block. Faherty, an east coast clothing brand just opened up at 115 Newbury Street, and Backyard Betty's, a cool retro restaurant, just opened up in Southie on Broadway; and I combined the two!

Remember how you loved how chill Holister was, and then you realized you don't need to actually swim through a bottle of cologne to look cool? Faherty is the relaxed brand with a west coast vibe, made from an east coast family. Twin brothers, and their entire families, make up the brand. All the materials used are so soft, well made, simple patterns, and really cool interior design (that I found out the Mom is in charge of). Summertime and cruises (which I'm going on in just a week!) are made for rompers: cute like dresses, but you don't have to worry about them flying up with every breeze. I'm wearing the White Lotus Blossom print. This print came in a blouse, dress, and romper. What was really cool was seeing several prints come in sets like these. I hate when you see a print of an item and you'd rather have it as a dress than a top, but at Faherty you have your options.

Speaking of options, Backyard Betty's is the new restaurant on Broadway in Southie and I'm in love. Late 20's to late 30's crowd, no squads taking flash photography to meet their goals, local Boston artists don the walls, great grilled eats, oh yah, and 2 Pac Man machines and old school 80's tv's playing Bob Ross behind the bar. My ADD loves this place. This place is huge with all open windows, 2 bars (perfect for socializing), great music preferences (the two times I've been the Pixies have been playing) and overall just a very chill atmosphere. Southie is becoming the hot bed for foodies—well maybe not "foodies" but "restauranties" (is that even a term?). Walk down Broadway and East Broadway you'll hit at least 5 restaurants in less than 50 yards, all with a completely different menu, vibe, and aesthetic. Some nail it, others.... not so much (cough cough Punk and Poet.... there is nothing "punk" about this place—quick vent: Just because your interior design sports the Sex Pistols and the Ramones doesn't mean you're punk, especially if you never play those bands and have a DJ BLASTING Sara Bareilles!!—ok done now).
